It was silly in some ways and she knew that. But humans did silly things, didn't they? No, this wouldn't have been silly for a human. Despite how long it had been, she couldn't help clinging to those old thoughts. That it was strange because it was her. That she was strange.
How long was it appropriate to mourn someone? And how long was appropriate for someone like her? Someone like him? Her fingers traced the railings of the stairway, and she remembered- no, she accessed her memories of- the others clamoring down them. They were going to see a movie that day, her, Yukari, Junpei, and him. It seemed more human if she forgot what movie it was, but she still remembered. She remembered all of it.
Finally, she reached his door. While before she may have barged in, she knocked lightly. That was silly too, wasn't it. There was no one waiting on the other side. She could not hear his heart beating, his chest rising up and down with every breath. Sometimes he would turn in his sleep. At first, she always woke him up out of concern, only to be shooed away. But it wasn't normal for her to be in there with him. At least... like that. What would it be like? To be with him in the way Yukari could be? Would he have even wanted that from her?
Aigis waited, and when there was no answer, she entered the room. She expected there to be no one, she expected for everything to be as it was. But instead, she was greeted with another door, one akin to those found during the Dark Hour. But she hadn't detected anything, and now with this finding, she should contact Mitsuru and the other operatives and-
She knew everything she should do, everything she was supposed to do, everything she was programmed to do. Still, she found herself drawn to the door and without knocking this time, she opened it.
He was there. That alone would have been a surprise, but his body also.... He was truly there. He wasn't a statue. Of course, she was well familiar with illusions. And she knew what she ought to do, given all the data she had compiled. But wasn't this response extremely human?
"Minato-san... I. I'm sorry..."

It's been 9 years since he became the seal. He would have been 25 now. Instead, he appears exactly as he did 9 year ago. Frozen in time at the border of 16-going-on-17. Uniform shirt still creased because he could never find the time or motivation to expend the energy required to iron them after washing.
But, so is she. Aigis is the same as she was 9 years ago. So they mirror each other, irrevocably changed people who will never age past a sweet sixteen.
He shouldn't be surprised it's her who answers his call but then again, if anyone did it would be her wouldn't it? ]
It's nothing you have to be sorry for. I think...I know how you must have felt in that facility for so long.
[ -and it's true he does feel closer to her now that he ever did when he was alive. Locked in an inescapable purpose. Now she's free and he's watching her from the outside locked in his own duty.
He had always felt closest to Ryoji and Aigis, their inhumanity was something he could empathise with moreso that he could ever do with real humans. It had taken so long for him to see himself as that. Human. It's almost ironic that he feels truly human when he's more than that now. ]
I missed you. I'm glad you didn't decide to shut yourself down. It would have been a waste of the life you were given.
[ He smiles, bitter and remorseful in a small single gesture. ]
Not that I have any room to talk.

"No."
At first, that's all she can muster.
"You're not... it isn't, it's not a waste."
She can't understand what he's been through, however, and she knows that. Even with her memories and her sisters' memories, and even their "mother's" memories, it's nothing. All of that blurs together. It's so vague amongst a sea of data. And with the life she's been given, she's hardly done enough.
"I have missed you as well. But you can't leave, can you."
